Near

Inspired by Plato’s “Symposium” and the concept  of “Semitomes” we attempt to capture the essence of human nature by presenting two parallel worlds, two separate forms of existence, which through their quest for their other half, they eventually become independent and reach consummation. Initially we attempted to understand each other through improvisation. We afforded each other with existential space and freedom of movement while interchanging between two roles, that of the leader and that of the follower. Then, we began composing a choreography based on the coordination of parallel movements. This allowed us to appreciate each other’s journey and to realise that this journey was a shared one as much as it was a personal one.  

Each of us is an incomplete half. According to PLATO humans are ¨HEMITOMES¨ (Hemitoma) constantly longing to reunite with their ¨ other-half¨  in order to return to their primordial nature and form.
This performance attempts to explore the driving forces which fuel our desire for consummation, the path towards our primary nature the¨ ANDROGYNE¨, marked by struggles, acceptance and ultimately  the UNION.

Στις αρχές του χρόνου οι άνθρωποι ήταν σφαιροειδή ανδρόγυνα όντα με δύο πρόσωπα δύο γεννητικά όργανα και οχτώ άκρα. Στρογγυλοί σαν πούλια από τάβλι. Τα πλάσματα αυτά ήταν τόσο δυνατά που οι Θεοί τα φοβήθηκαν και ο Δίας αποφάσισε να τα σκίσει στα δύο με ένα κεραυνό Εξ ενός δύο. Τα δύο μας κομμάτια ονομάζονταν ημίτομα και ο Απόλλωνας τα έραβε ενώνοντας τα τελειώματα στον αφαλό.Οι άνθρωποι είναι μισοί - Ημίτομα. Που προσπαθούν να ολοκληρωθούν στην αρχική τους ενότητα αναζητώντας το άλλο τους μισό. Ο πόθος για το ολόκληρο κι η ορμή μας να επιστρέψουμε στην πρωταρχική μας φύση ενώνοντας τα 2 μισά σε ένα ολόκληρο.
